Works really well. It looks cool in my case. It's quiet. It may inspire me to start using my PC to its full potential. Or I may take up bodybuilding and be elected governor of Cal-ee-fornia. Anything's possible.
I am obsessive when it comes to high quality computer components, often overpaying for parts that offer more power or performance than I would ever use. This is not MSI's fault, so I didn't remove an egg. My wife would not approve of me paying this much for a video card when a used $20 card would have suited my needs. But she doesn't need to get her nails done every week either.
I'm not a "gamer". Basically, I check e-mail, browse fantasy football sites, computer sites, WWTDD, listen to music, and watch, you know, "videos". Gee, I sure hope my HAF 932 case, Phenom II CPU, 650W Seasonic PSU and this freaking $145 video card are up to the challenge. In a related story, I used a 12-gauge shotgun to rid my property of a hornet's nest that was hanging from a maple tree.
Has enough brains to cool itself by cranking up the fan when needed, unlike the Sapphire 3870-X2 it replaced. That overpriced monster had no control over its own fan, and needed Riva Tuner to make it work properly. This card is fast enough for my modest needs. It runs quietly, but the Cons below take 3 stars off its rating.
does not do double precision floating point math, unlike the Sapphire 3870-X2 and most current ATI cards. That means that any distributed processing task, like folding@home and several BOINC projects will not use the GPU. Wish I had known this before buying.
Even worse, the video at random times goes black for a second or two. No error messages, nothing in the event viewer to explain it. This started after I'd had it a few months. I wish I had not purchased this card.
