Bought two of these for recent HTPC builds, no issues at all:
2x SILVERSTONE Milo ML05B
With a ASRock FM2A88X and a MSI A88XM-E35
- Respectable price, well worth the money, there are coolers out there of lesser quality for more.
- Extremely quiet, even on full speed.
- Comes with enough thermal paste to easily install more than two coolers, I saved the tube from the second box.
- Thermal paste seems to do a decent job, only time will tell.
- Comes with fan cable extenders, very thoughtful.
- Wide heatsink with good dispersion, leaves at least one RAM slot open on the smallest of m-ITX boards.
No Cons at all. Does what it was designed to do very well.
But it can be a bit difficult to mount, since you secure it from behind the motherboard and you have to watch the heatsink because it is usually close (but not touching) other components.
It is not hard, but novices could have a bit of trouble.
I have always found that the easiest way to do it is to place the cooler fan face down on a flat surface. I used the box it came in.
Flip the motherboard upside down and line up the holes as you lower it onto the heatsink.
As with anything, double check the dimensions specs and requirements for this, and verify it will work with your build.
This was my first Noctua CPU cooler, always stuck with brands I had experience with, but always wanted to try them out. Very happy to have another company to add to the list.
Very impressed with Noctura packaging, when you open the box, you feel like you bought a quality product that they care about. Its not just flopped in a thin box with plastic on the bottom like even some quality ones come in.
It was quiet for the first month, now it makes a rhythmic clicking noise as if the blades of the fan are unbalanced and rubbing against some other part of the fan or heatsink. That said, the product seems to be high quality and the packaging made it feel premium
Now it makes a rhythmic clicking noise that motivates me to turn off my computer at night so I don't have to listen to it. Extremely frustrating. I just rebuilt my computer 4 months ago and I don't want to tear it apart again in a mini-ITX case just to replace the heatsink.
