Does an exceptional job at cooling a stock 1800x.
As stated, the fan is SILENT.
Heat sink is heavy, speaks well to it’s cooling ability.
Packaging was fantastic. No plastic, all foam padding.
Uh... Noctua didn’t pre-apply the TIM? Not much here.
Built an ITX gaming rig to bring on business trips. Had an 1800x laying around, picked up an ASRock AB350 FATALITY mobo and a Fractal Design Node 202 case. After 3 hours of raiding H/M Uldir (WoW), CPU never broke 62 C.
I purchased this cooler before researching; its rated for 65w CPUs. According to Noctua’s website, this cooler can be used for 95W CPUs [1800x] (overclocking not recommended) with good ventilation. Noctua does not recommend to use this with 105W CPUs [2700x].
Fan works.
Looks nice.
The installation is very weird and involves holding the thermal pasted cooler up to one side of the motherboard while you push very long delicate screws through the other side and hope to get the threads started in holes which you cannot see from either side.
It is very difficult to thread down and when you do it slides around on the thermal paste and your PC runs hot. Then when you got to tighten these finely threaded screws don further, the heads start to strip out and then they go through the back plate because they needed to have bigger heads or washers.
The whole time you are manually tightening the screws down the cooler plate is ratteling around on the other side of the board banging into who knows...the CPU? Capacitors on the board?
Overall a bad design with long screws which are very inconvenient to install and end up going through the back plate instead of tightening down onto it.
Would not recommend. this need to be far better designed. Maybe this was the budget offering but don't buy this. Spend more and find a better more robust design.
I've been building PC's for over a decade and this is the worst cooler install experience I've had so far.
RMAing.
