Wow..this thing keeps my CPU at 28C idle, 32C under my normal workload (server 08, sql server 2005, two copies VS2008, photoshop, and a VM).
Make sure you have clearance all around. I had to turn this around to blow away from my DIMMS because it would not fit otherwise.
This is cooling an AMD Phenom II X4 3.0ghz Black Edition.
Well constructed heatsink, included fan is very quiet, I even like the color scheme.
I'm cooling a Phenom 940 BE @ 3.6 1.45 volts. I started with the stock heat sink, moved up to a Zalman 9900led, and then the NH-U12P. I wasn't satisfied with the idle temps of the Zalman unit (38-41 degrees) so I placed an order for the Noctua after reading reviews with nothing but praise for this unit. Guess what? I'm seeing the exact same temps as the Zalman unit! I was hoping to at least pull the idle temps down a few degrees but no such luck. Additionally, OCCT produces a load temp of 52 degrees on both units. With no reduction in temps for either idle or load I'm regretting my purchase.
It's possible I may have a bad base plate, careful inspection reveals the base is not flat but seems to curve up towards the heatsink in a U-shape. Quality control issue?
