BIG and BEAUTIFUL and QUIET
1 The 3 HDD bracket needs to be relocated as no room for cable connections.
2 No speed controls for the fans
3 No way to power some fans
(I don't run fans full throttle, too loud)
4 The HDD rivets will come out of the rubber grommets when adding HDDs
I am using it for a home server with 18 HDDs.
Some things to consider before you start
1 Review the Cons
2 18" sata data cables are too short for all HDDs
3 HDD power cables will be too short for all HDDs
There is so much room in this case. It is huge. The dimensions given must be without covers and feet. I did not make any deductions for the Cons as they are easily fixed but will cause a delay if you are not prepared for them. This is the best case I have ever owned.
Huge case, plenty of room inside for cooling, air or liquid and multiple expansion bays in the back.
Solid cable routing
Four (!!!!) optical bays
Dust covers for front and bottom intakes.
Convenient closable ventilation on the front and top of the case which allows the user to switch from neutral to positive or negative airflow setup depending on setup and preferences (the units best feature IMO)
Size- this unit is massive and takes up a lot of space on the outside. It has a slightly raised surface on the top which Newegg doesn't account for in the provided dimensions. I was unable to mount it under my desk as it was 1/8 of an inch taller than stated.
Placement/type of USB ports- A big disappointment when I got the case, the description says you need a USB 3.0 slot on your motherboard: actually you need two. It also is placed on the top of the case, so if you do manage to have a large enough desk to place it underneath you won't really be able to use the USB; it only works if you put it on the floor(this is probably what you'll end up having to do as I did because of its size as previously stated)
Cheap plastic construction- Probably my biggest gripe with this case. My first unit came with a broken top panel, all of the plastic flanges which snap into the metal sockets had sheared from the plastic top. I had to RMA the case and wait an additional 2 weeks to receive my replacement. This delayed the construction of my computer by an equal amount of time. Also, it was missing the screws which is unacceptable and something another user has pointed out. When I received the new case it was more less intact, save for the fact that the latch on the front fan assembly was broken and would not snap closed (another sign of the aforementioned cheap plastic construction). This brings us to the final component:
Rosewill customer service- The first gentleman I spoke to about getting the replacement case was polite and empathetic and took care of me well, his name was Dwayne. Unfortunately, the good service began and ended there. The next time I had to deal with them, it came out that they did not keep replacement parts for their units and that they outsource the construction of those units which explains a lot. So to get the front door latch replaced, I would have to wait for someone else to return a unit that they could cannibalize, or I could take my chances RMA it (who knows what might be broken on the replacement I get, not to mention the fact that I would have to disassemble the computer that I have already put together). I chose to wait. Three weeks later I received a notice from Roswell that my replacement part had shipped and I received it in a few days, however when I open the box all that I got was a replacement fan not the latch assembly that I had requested. I called and some young drone told me the computer just said fan and that must be what I told the last person. When I insisted that I went into detail in describing the latch problem he stated that's not what he saw there. I again described the issue to him and he again gave me the choice to either RMA the units or wait for a replacement. That is where it is now, waiting for the replacement. I originally wanted to wait to do this, however based on the glacial pace at which Rosewill works that may be well into next year and I wanted to get these thoughts out whilst they were fresh.
There are a few small things about this case which while not big enough to be cons are certainly not pros. The case has ultra bright LED lights which are bright enough to shine on the ceiling of my apartment. If you sleep in the same room as your case this could be a bother, fortunately I don't. There is some denting and sharp edges on the metal construction which is small and mostly cosmetic but could possibly catch on cloth or something like that if you were working around it frequently. The whole reason I bought this case was for the VGA card space and cooling flexibility, and it doesn't disappoint in those categories. Sadly, in every other sense it does and so I must rate this 2/5. Hopefully, Rosewill will work on some of the quality issues, because this has the potential to be a great unit.
