Most obvious pro is 8 DIMM slots and it is already approved for 128GB of RAM. Don't know what you would do with 128GB but its fun to brag that you can handle it.
Good price for the hardware: 8DIMMS and 3x PCI 3.0
Overclocking by increasing the turbo upper limit works well. I was able to achieve stability at 4.8GHz and was able to boot at 5.0GHz but it wasn't completely stable. But those are pretty high clocks and you aren't wasting power because it will still downclock all the way to 1.2GHz. I didn't see any decrease in performance when comparing the same clock at turbo and when set constant. This is a major improvement over previous generations.
i realize some of this is pro for the processor. To clarify, my cpu is the K not the X.
Apparently to run RAID you have to manually load the drivers during OS installation.... seriously?
Overclocking other than by increasing the turbo upper limit is finicky.
No reset button on the board.
Whatever setting the OC Genie button set did not work.
Direct OC buttons are worthless. You still need to restart.
MSI's LiveUpdate is annoying, but I can't say I every used mb update software that wasn't.
There are still some finicky issues that need to be worked out and probably will with BIOS updates. After a couple more BIOS updates this will probably be a 5 egg board. But til then its not.
If over 10% of the motherboards that Newegg shipped out were compatible with the 3820's and up... probably everything.
The majority of these boards don't have updated bios and WILL NOT even post with the new processors.
I bought this in a bundle with the new i7 3820 and guess what? It's not even compatible unless you update the BIOS which you can't because it won't even POST because it's not compatible without the update. Newegg refuses to fix it, so I guess I have to pay money and send it to MSI and wait a month so they can spend 15 seconds to update my BIOS.
