-LGA 1155 and z68
-6 INTEL SATA connectors(2x6GB/s, 4x3GB/s)
-fully unlocked mobo; you can tinker with every setting; supports XMP
-S/PDIF Out
-nice colors
-instruction manual is helpful
-someone else said something about it, but feels flimsy? idk, i thought standard ATX used more than 6 screws to anchor the mobo? that is why it feels flimsy, like when you are plugging in the main power, the board has like 2 inches of space from the screws so it torques (bends) a little
-no stickers :'[
-core i5 2500k @ 4200
-8 GB Corsair @ 1866
-cooler master hyper212 plus
-no video card yet; next month
i've been out of the system building game since around 2005. i concur completely that this is a very nice board to get into or back into that game. out of the box, you can use the auto-tune and XMP support to OC with max stability; prime95 ran for 4 hours last night, no errors, 62 C max core temps. i'd definitely ditch the stock cooler, prime95 temps went into low 90s with the stock cooler, and it's pretty loud.
solid buy. as always i hope it doesn't burn out on day 31 lol
This is a follow-up to my previous post "ASUS GONE WRONG"
I spent more than 12 hours with ASUS tech support, with at least 15 separate calls. Based on their advice, I RMA'd the MB and bought a new power supply. When I finally reached a customer service Representative from ASUS with the authority to make something happen, things changed. He, Martin, returned my calls, approved sending a replacement board, and called to insure it was received. Don't get me wrong, it shouldn't have taken a month and 15 calls to make this happen, but once I got in touch with Martin, helping me was a priority. As it turns out, the MB wasn't the problem, WIN 7 would still not install. I updated the MB BIOS and the SSD firmware - no change. I called Microsoft and spent hours with tech support as well. Downloaded a fresh copy of WIN 7 - no help. They advised that the core i5 2500K cpu was the probable problem. Newegg, immediately RMA'd the CPU. Guess what - no help. By the way, I tested the newly installed RAM with Microsoft's memory checker and the memory alert
(cont from CONS)
built into the ASUS MB, both indicated the RAM was OK. Well, I replaced everything except the case, so I downloaded MEMTEST 86 and tested the memory 1 stick at a time. The results?
- Motherboards (2) were good
- Power supplys (2) were good
- icore 2500K (2) were good
- 3 of the 4 sticks of RAM were good - 1 tested bad - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600.
I am now way past the 30 day return for Newegg, but a call to them explaining the situation helped them agree to RMA the RAM.
Newegg sets the standard for customer service, I have been and will continue to be a loyal customer - THANK YOU NEWEGG!!!!!!
