ASRock H81M-HDS LGA 1150 Intel H81 HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Nice BIOS, fairly easy to navigate

Very inexpensive, but reasonable features

Cons: Very low-end audio chipset

Only 4 total SATA plugs, 1 USB3 header, 2 USB2 headers... not really a 'con' but understand that's all you are getting

Funky 24-pin socket (see other thoughts.)

Overall Review: Bought this for a budget PC build, it's working very well. It did not seem 'flimsy' at all... and believe me, I put it to the test.

Like the other reviewer mentioned... I had problems seating the 24-pin plug on my CX430... it just did not want to go in all the way. I even bought a CX430M, thinking it was a fluke, but it wouldn't seat either. I have it jammed in as far as it'll go, but I can't get the retention clip in place. I have another CX430 in my HTPC plugged into a Gigabyte board with none of those problems. I can't say if it's the mobo or PSU... but they definitely don't play well with each other.

This is my first ASRock motherboard, so far I'm very pleased with it, aside from the pesky pin problem.

Serial port availability
Works with Ubuntu

Cons: Potential issue with USB3 onboard connector
Unable to tweak power settings in UEFI

Overall Review: I had previously bought a Gigabyte B85 board that had too many USB issues running on Ubuntu. I returned it for this board which seems to be working well so far. I did run into 2 issues:
1. The onboard USB3.0 connector is not working (I've ordered another cable to rule out any issues with the cable). The OS does not report anything getting plugged in or out.
2. I'm using the latest gen i3 processor and was hoping to limit power consumption to about 45W to reduce heat since I'd like to use this board in a case with limited ventilation. There is an option on the UEFI for setting power limits in Watts but it is clearly not working. I checked power consumption using Kill-a-watt with widely varying settings for the Power limit but it did not make any difference. The moment I stressed the CPU, power utilization would shoot to 68W.
My 2 star rating is purely for this documented UEFI capability not working. It would have been better if they don't claim to support it at all.
Anyway, if any of my Cons don't apply to your needs then go ahead and purchase this board.
