Pros: Actually spins down to 1x to play DVDs and CDs and speads up only when it needs to and only as much as it has to to match the data demand. DEAD SILENT when it needs to be, and even relatively quiet at full blast. Impressive rip speeds to boot.

Cons: Burns at 20x but only reads at 16x? This was a replacement for another Pioneer that died after less than one year.

Overall Review: Tried two other brand drives in the interum before going back to this Pioneer, which is largely identical except 20x vice 16x write speed. The other brands are fine for normal PC use, but they are noisy for actually playing a movie or a CD because they always want to spin at half or, worse yet, full speed. Hopefully this one will last longer than it's predecessor.

Pros: (Sorta) works

Cons: I had burned some data DVDs (on Magnavox DVD + R disks) on my old computer for transfer to a different one, and my new Pioneer drive copied a file or two to my hard drive, before stopping with an error message. Thought the problem might be the disk, but it copied to the hard drive of a friends computer quickly, without any problems. The drive does seem to play DVDs OK. Haven't tried to burn DVDs with it yet.
