Have 4 WD 250s running for about a year straight, no issues so far. I really like Promise, they have always worked great for me. The web application is a great tool for setting up and initializing and monitoring your disks. The box has alot of goodies in it too!
None so far! The web application is in JAVA, so have patience. It works great, its just JAVA though.
I'd like for promise to come out with a 6 port or more for SATA II for PCI. I still have older MOBOs and don't have any PCIx slots. I am going to buy another one for my other server's hardware upgrade.
The cards works great, but not out the box. The card requires a significant change: go back to a previous BIOS/firmware version! I am using this card with four 500GB drives (WD5000AAJS). Because of all the extra work needed to get the card to work correctly, I'm only giving it a "3-average" rating. Funny thing is, this is still probably the BEST 4-port PCI RAID card.
The card ships with BIOS BIOS v2.8.1.0004. This is the latest BIOS version Promise has put together for the card, which is complete garbage. Especially since this BIOS release is suppose to have "Reduced BIOS code size to enhance compatibility with motherboards." I tried the card on 4 different computers, with no success. I STRONGLY SUGGEST flashing the card with BIOS v2.5.1.3119. The trick is you will have to find a computer that "likes" card and hope that computer has a floppy drive -- so that you can conduct the BIOS flash. After that, the card works like magic!
To all of those people who state you need a floppy. Yes that is true of most add-in controller cards, if you are planning to boot off of it and trying to install operating system onto it. So you will have to make your own floppy disc because there is not one included. If you are installing this onto a computer that already has an existing operating system, where the controller will not be used to boot, then the included CD will work just fine.
