Reviews(10)
- Massive capacity, 10 TB which is a lot of video regardless of whichever resolution you are recording
- Can sustain long write times which accounts for its durability and endurance as a drive'\
- Was quite surprised of how quick it performed for a 5,400 RPM drive.
- 256 MB of cache which is largest ever
- Runs pretty quiet, Synologys make a difference
- Temps are not an issue runs extremely cool
- 3 year warranty which is outstanding and much needed for a drive in this class
- Expensive, not worth getting unless you really are using this for surveillance whether it is for business or the home setting.
Had the drive running for about 10 months now consistently without any hiccups. I was quite pleased with how well it has stood up to continuous writing. Recording was done using a third party security cam recording at 480p/30fps. Upon review of selections of recordings the drive was flawless. No degraded files etc.
One of the biggest baddest drive on the market. Warranty is up to 3 years. It’s expensive but fast for a HDD that is. Let’s see how fast in the real world: I transfer to and from a Ramdrive with 9.5GB/sec read and write speeds with a 7700K/64GB, there are no bottlenecks here. This is the fastest you can ever expect the drive to read and write from. These are sustained writing speeds (after the buffer has exhausted)
Write:
Large: 166 MB/sec
Medium: 90 MB/sec
Small: 1.18 MB/sec
Read:
Large File: 80 MB/sec
Medium Files: 90 MB/sec
Tiny files: 1.3 MB/sec
That’s real world with real data, let’s check synthetic.
CrystalMark 5 gives these figures for 1 GiB, 5 passes:
Read:
Seq Q32T1 - 218.2
4K Q32T1 - 0.417
Seq: - 219.1
4K: - 0.32
Write:
Seq Q32T1 - 219.0
4K Q32T1 - 3.325
Seq: - 218.7
4K: - 3.285
You can see this is a drive that focuses on WRITE speeds. Which is exactly what you want for a multi-camera system. I threw in it my system and put every 4MP camera to write on it and it did it without a single hiccup.
If you didn’t use this drive for camera security, the buffer is huge and in real life is the file(s) is less than 1GB, it will copy seemingly instantaneously. Even medium sized files. A whole gig of mp3s/pictures in a 1 second. No kidding. No progress bar is even seen, it just is there.
Price Fixing (the industry norm) plus bleeding edge premium makes this one very expensive drive. What is interesting is this drive runs 10° C hotter than my other hard drives. That’s outside the case. (26° vs 36°C) . But even at higher temps, it's still not bad at all. It looses two eggs due to pricing and price fixing.
All claims confirmed. Excellent drive for security camera system OR heavy write environment. Quiet too.
