* Good Quality build
* Easily Read Screen
* Variety of Connectors
*Significant Statistics Produced
*Scant documentation
*Fractured English
*Wish it were a tad heavier
A very good product that desperately needs documentation that is more than a few phrases in fractured English. When a device is as niche-driven technically as is this power supply tester, it should have at least a decent introduction as to use. The Rexus PST-3 Digital Power Supply Tester with LCD is a good device for simple and moderate level testing but leaves the novice level PC enthusiast adrift and casting about for instructions as to proper first-step use from friends and the Internet. If you already have a fair-to-good knowledge of power supply testing this will do quite nicely. If you do not, you will join me on the web and in enthusiast forums asking what the heck you should do be doing in order to perform a proper test of a specific PSU.
The device has an easily-read LCD screen that allows the presentation of several power parameters based on the type of connection(s) used. Be aware that - besides the motherboard connection itself - one should only use one other connection at a time. This is explained - in rather poor English unfortunately - in the instructions.
For example, it makes no mention of the fact that merely seeing the fan move and statistics generate when connecting to a PSU is nowhere near enough to certify that a PSU is functional. What must be done is to connect a device that will produce a power load. This is because a PSU may well power up, but then fail (either completely or intermittently) when a load is present. That's just one issue that is not mentioned.
What is present in terms of instructions is not good. As an example - note the already-mentioned poor explanation of the limit of testing one power supply connection (in addition to the motherboard connection) at a time.
So, you are good to go if you are familiar with power supply testing but if - like me - you are a novice in the area, expect to have to cast about a bit on the web in order to find out what the heck to do to really make use of the device.
Before one answers that anyone buying this should already have knowledge - allow me to disagree. This is a niche-level product that is needed as almost a basic necessity by those "afflicted" with the PC building bug. The lack of including - at the very least - several pages of suggested sample test procedures - is simply not logical and defeats a good portion of the main reason to produce the product in the first place - power supply knowledge.
Backlit display, idiot proof, metal housing
Connectors were extreemly tight. Maybe they will loosen up, but I felt like I was going to break something trying to get the 4 pin connector off of it.
Rail 2 will show low voltage unless you also connect a peripheral connector, such a sata power or 4 pin molex.
