This is a nice little case and appears to be solid. I bought it with 5 Hitachi drives and connected it directly to a SATA port on a ASUS M4A785-M motherboard configured to use AHCI for SATA, and Solaris Nevada 160 found all of the drives and was happy to create and populate a ZFS raid pool from them. I'm seeing about 80Mb/sec, not stellar but fine, and it does appear to be solid. I have not used the Rocket Raid card except for a brief sanity check with Windows Vista on another box.
The rails and sleds aren't especially robust, so take it slow.
Big storage in a nice format with a single cable - what's not to like? Until USB 3.0 is more prevalent and afforable, this is good.
Easy to setp.
Good Build quality.
Web GUI management.
Hardware RAID with low cost.
Noise from 40mm power fan.
120mm fan is OK. But not quiet.
I remove one egg for extra charge for quieter fans.
Another egg is for rebuiding array when I reboot system.
After I replace both fans, I can't hear any noise at all.
Below is information of replacements.
SUNON HA40201V4-0000-C99 40mm Case Fan
Scythe GentleTyphoon D1225C12B3AP-13 120mm Case Fan
Another problem is
After setting and array RAID 5, everything works fine.
When I turned off this sytem then turned on, it is working. But, system status shows critical and is rebuilding array on the background.
total system speed is slow because rebuilding is working on the background.
