Overall Review: This is just a preliminary review because I have only had the drive a day, but I want to point out a couple of things. I'm not the first to note these, but this should be repeated often, I think.

If your drive is not recognized, try jumping pins 5 & 6. This is a very common problem, perhaps only with VIA chipsets, that seems only to be discussed right here.

AFTER I jumped pins 5 & 6, I was able to partition and format the drive in QTparted in Mepis Linux; works fine so far.

Also, this drive has 2 power connectors, the new SATA and legacy (as IDE drives have); you can use only one connector at a time, CAREFUL! Using both connectors can fry the drive.

Pros: Well it's my first WD hard drive.

but I must say that it's quite and cool.

Cons: Western Digital have problems with their sata power connector on the drive. This is my 2nd one and have exactlly the same problem.
It came from newegg with a brocken sata power connector.
Apparentlly WD have an issue with this and came up with the power connector adapter which is included in some of their drives.
I had to use some indutrial standard adhesive to hold the sata power cable in place to make sure it doesnt wiggle.

Overall Review: Just be carefull not to break the power connector when plugging in or removing the cable.
If you do break it and dont want to do RMA shipment and restocking fees, just use a good adhesive to hold it inplace, watch out not to touch any pins.
