GIGABYTE GA-X38-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board works great. Put it together and worked on first boot. Running Vista 64bit, Core2 6300 @ 3.1GHZ, FSB 1720 w 4*1GB @ 860MHZ 4-4-4-12. Running F2 BIOS. Will upgrade to a Core2 E8400 upon release. I am also running Raid 0 and I did not need to use a boot floppy for Vista; Vista detected and auto loaded the raid drivers for the onboard Intel ICH9R.

Cons: Only con was the product support web link on NewEgg site directed me to a support page that doesn't have the latest BIOS on it (old BIOS F1) - You can find a newer BIOS here (new BIOS F2) - http://www.giga-byte.be/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=2736

Pros: Vista detects RAID, no need to go through the hassle of installing the drivers during installation. A lot of options in the BIOS. Very thoughtfully layed out design.

Cons: I might be one of the few with any problems, but I did have one annoying problem. My BIOS came corrupted. It took about ten boots before it would even POST, and when it did, a message came up saying that the BIOS was corrupted. Also, this did not come with a lot of extra goodies that I'm used to seeing from other manufacturers. Gigabyte also has slow/poor tech support.

Overall Review: The motherboard fixed the corrupted BIOS itself, which is a neat feature. I did call Gigabyte to see if I should possibly return the board or send it to them for a further eval, and all they could tell me is "I don't know". Look, when any sort of memory chip has corrupted software, either the chip itself is bad, the software wasn't installed correctly, or some sort of voltage spike offset some bit. However, it does work. Better tech support and less hassles would have garnered this a 4 or 5.
