Great cheap OC MotherBoard

Good overclocking MB I put a E7200 Wolfdale on this
and it booted right up no bios update needed. I OC fsb
to 333mhz turned off all the intel power saving goodies
and set voltage to 1.200000 and 3163 mhz rock solid.
GA must read these reviews because almost all the cons listed for mb GA-G31M-SL2 have been fixed on this board Great job GA!

The power saving settings for the clock state/ reduce
clock when idel! well a couple of times I seen voltage of 1.56 @ 6 x 333 1998mhz that is way over voltage max.
so if you buy this board and oc turn these off in the bios.

cpu fsb 1066/1333/1600 no problem mine right now is
@8.5 x 400 3400mhz voltage 1.27500/ mem fsb 500mhz
seems to be top speed I have 2g of wintec 8500 1066
but if I go over 1000 mhz board won't post. Hey for $57
and $130 for E7200 thats a lot of bang for your buck.
and yes mine will run @ 9.5 x 400 3.8 ghz but a little
warm for me on air cooler Rosewill Z5. hope the info
helps out. Thanks NewEgg for the great service.

TOP CRITICAL REVIEW
Not for serious overclocking

Very compact. Great for building a hackintosh if you are using a Powermac G4 case as the RAM can clear the DVD Drive.

Limited Overclock potential at least with the Pentium Dual Cores. Was only able to hit 3.11 Ghz on a 2.5 Ghz e5200 no matter what I did with the CPU Voltage. It was not a CPU speed problem either I tried upping the FSB and dropping the multiplier but it still would not POST.

I list this as a CON since the board is advertised as being 1600 FSB O.C. that would lead one to believe that this board is made for overclocking.

BIOS incorrectly set the multiplier for two CPU's (e2200 and e5200) so far incorrectly so you have to reset them manually.

Many people can not get this board to Overclock at all.

If you want to O'C you must manually set the CPU voltage. If you change the FSB and leave the CPU voltage on automatic the computer will not POST and disable the custom FSB settings.

I have built two computers with this board the other with an Pentium Dual Core e2200 both react the same with overclocking and have the same BUS limit of 249Mhz (996FSB)

I knew from the reviews this was not the best board for Overclocking but it is one of the few that can fit into a Powermac G4 case with the RAM slots close enough to the CPU to clear the DVD drive bay. The board also had to be compatible with Mac OS X in which case I wanted an Intel Northbridge and workable sound/LAN.
