First of all, I was a little nervous about all of the reviews saying it came DOA.
-came in great working condition
-lots of USB ports
-easy to follow instructions
-love the gigabyte features:
-backup bios
-separate fuse for each USB
-high quality
-high tech for it's time (compare to other mobos)
Not really anything...
Many people have it DOA sounds like but they would replace it so... I guess that would just be a delay if anything
Gigabyte has a lot of cool features in their motherboards. I got an ASUS this time around because there are not any good Gigabyte mobos for my new CPU's socket.
+The Intel P55 platform is nice. I like the RAID utility (and BIOS popup) a lot more than the AMD equivalent. The Intel documentation is par excellence.
+USB3, SATA3.
+Overclocks my i5 760 to 4GHz core, 200MHz BCLK at stock voltage (1.36v) with ease. Totally stable so far.
+Setting up OC RAM (>1066MHz) is ridiculously easy if you use the XMP profile option (a bit buried in the BIOS menus).
+Has all the features I could want in a mid-range workstation build.
+Non-angled SATA connectors are easier to work with in my Coolermaster CM690II.
+No audible VRM whine. The board this replaces (old Asus M3A79T-Deluxe) had terrible VRM whine.
+No EMI on audio -- I use very low impedance ear buds that pick up EMI from many (even high end) boards.
+Doesn't use the awful J-Micron JMB series SATA controller for the non-Intel-driven SATA3 ports. Many AMD-based boards I've looked at (and/or own) have these useless controllers.
+The Gigabyte documentation is fairly good, although vague in se
+Non-angled SATA connectors cause clutter and are uncool.
+EnergySaver 2 app doesn't work with Windows Server 2008 R2-- it ran once and worked, but with every subsequent launch it crashes.
+BIOS does not allow saving several OC profiles and switching between them.
+Uses Foxconn 1156 socket, which could possibly cause "socket burn" with aggressive overclocking (google it). Supposedly foxconn revised the socket, but there are still problem reports showing up. Sockets from other manufacturers seem to not have this issue. I'll probably pull apart my rig in a week or two and check the CPU and socket.
+Using SATA3 and USB3 steals PCI-E lanes from GFX, although this has minimal impact on 3D performance.
+It has no detachable stand-off for front panel connectors, so that you don't have to plug each tiny connector directly into the motherboard.
+ The front panel audio port is in a ridiculous place near the rear panel.
+No rear E-SATA.
Together with the i5 760 and cheap 1600MHz CL9 RAM, this board is a great deal! It lacks the refinement and overclocking capability of the higher end boards I usually get, but so far it's got the job done with zero major issues.
