- The i7 4700MQ in combination with the GTX 770m provide exceptional performance. - MSATA SSD 128GB storage - Unit is light and surprisingly thin for the power it backs - Stays cool to the touch even under load - Price/performance ratio is excellent - Optimus Technology provides decent battery life - Display is very bright and vibrant - Backlit keyboard - Keyboard does not flex when typing on it, also provides a fullsize keyboard, while also being very responsive - Surprisingly compact power brick
- Trackpad is very average - Windows 8 - Only 2 USB 3.0 ports - Unified left/right click button on touchpad is awkward to use. - Rubberized palm rest would of been nice - 5400RPM 1TB HDD, although this is easily remedied. - Love it or hate it yellow color scheme
I've been in search for a very long time for a laptop that offered a good balance of weight/performance while retaining a 15.6inch screen or smaller, that would also provide exceptional graphics. The GTX 770M included is absolutely nothing to dismiss, it offers graphical performance near a desktop GTX 650/650Tii.
This laptop is replacing my Asus G53SX1, while that laptop was good it was way too bulky and overall felt extremely cheap and fell apart a little over 2 years after I bought it. While that laptop had good cooling, the weight distribution of the heatsink/battery being on the back end provided for a very uneven distribution of weight, and it felt awkward carrying it around in a backpack since one side weighed a lot more than the other half. The power brick was also so large it became kind of annoying to carry around. While Asus have made improvements since then to their laptop line up, I cannot help but feel burned for spending the sum that I did only to have it fall apart the way it did.
Since then, I've been looking for a laptop that had a chassis designed for good cooling and one that had a good build quality overall. Did I mention the display that comes with this unit is gorgeous?
When I saw this unit I instantly fell in love with the placement of its internals and the dedicated cooling for the CPU/GPU. Its amazing how cool this unit remains to the touch, CPU and GPU both stay under 65C which is more than comfortable. While the fans are a bit audible while the laptop is stressed I don't feel like its loud enough to ever be an issue.
The sound has a little bit to be desired but at the same time I don't really care a great bit about this, while it is loud, turning the volume up to higher levels makes for some messy sound. I always typically use earbuds/heaphones so like I said this is something I don't really care a great deal about.
Battery life is also somewhat decent, around 3 - 4 hours under normal use. While gaming obviously this will shorten battery life dramatically but you probably won't be gaming off battery anyway.
For $1500, I would say this laptop is the perfect for someone who wants to stay very mobile but have something that offers exceptional performance without breaking your back. This laptop feels very sturdy, and has been an absolute joy to use. I'm still blown away that something this good came from Gigabyte. I feel like they really did their homework for the most part in delivering a very solid product. I don't think any other laptop comes close to reaching the level of quality that this delivers, especially for what it cost.
I am absolutely in love Gigabyte, I've been searching for a laptop like this for a very long time and while I was iffy at first, I am totally convinced that this is as good as it gets. This is the best 15.6" laptop without a doubt. Finally someone gets it. $1500 well spent.
TLDR: Looking for a high quality 15.6" laptop that offers exceptional performance? This is the

DOA - We'll see how the next one does
Seemed like a really nice laptop for the few minutes I got to use it before putting it back in the box to ship back to Newegg.
Dead pixel - nice bright orange dot in the top right corner of the display.
I'm shipping it back to newegg for exchange. I may update the review later.
